The distance from Santa Cruz to Faja didn't appear to be very far on the map, but after driving up and down mountainsides, switchback after switchback, it became evident that Maria Ceo was sent to Faja Grande to be tucked away in the furthest possible village. After driving the most spectacular winding roads I've ever seen, we arrived. It was beautiful!! The the crashing coastline on one side and lush green hillsides with multiple waterfalls pouring down the sides seemed to be like something out of a dream.
We were on a mission to find the church that Maria was suppose to go to Catechism school at. The church was said to have a long flight of cement stairs but when Maria Tomazia saw the children "running up and down, over and around them" she was afraid Maria Ceo would get hurt and refused to let her attend. Instead, she learned the entire catechism book at home.
